Magnus Persson

Magnus is head of the division Operations Management at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, where he holds a position as senior lecturer. His research is in the area of platform development, modularization and efficient variety management. In this research the focus is on:

How the interplay between the product, the organization and the product development process should be managed when implementing a platform and modularization strategy.

How the early phases (pre-study, concept development etc.) in the product development process should be designed and managed in order to support the development of platform and module based products

How the trade-offs between the different organizational functions (e.g. market, R&D, production, service etc.) should be managed or resolved to in order for the company to gain the most benefits out of a platform and modularization strategy.

The research has involved, and is involving, a number of different Swedish manufacturing companies; e.g. Volvo Cars, Volvo Trucks, Getinge, Alfa Laval and Tetra Pak.
